Welding Inspectors have deep knowledge of welding techniques, testing, materials, and standards.

Their responsibility is to ensure that all welding processes correspond to the quality and safety rules.

A welding inspector is one of the key experts that ensure the safety and integrity of buildings, vehicles, machinery, and other products that need welds.

Responsibilities of Welding Inspectors

  • Examine and maintain welding systems.
  • Verify welder expertise and welding systems sustainability.
  • Authenticate safety requirements.
  • Create visual inspection systems and NDE inspection devising.
  • Inspect contractual requirements and vendors aptness.
  • Develop and review quality control schemes.

Mandatory Education

Welding inspectors are expected to have the following training:

  • Associate or college degree in welding, metal processing, and fabrication, welding engineering, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in welding engineering, metal fabrication, material science, etc.
  • Mentorship program.
  • NDT or NDE technology certifications.

The following may be recommended:

  • Certification in metallurgy, metal fabrication, welding.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector.

Fundamental Skills

  • Close attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer technologies.
  • High motivation and strong leadership qualities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of welding systems, materials, filler metals, etc.
  • Understand and read the blueprints, drawings, and tech documents.

Workplace Environment

Welding inspectors work both inside and outside the office.

The working sites can include manufacturing facilities, training centers, workshops, or construction areas.

Minimal or frequent traveling can be involved.
