Welding Technicians have comprehensive knowledge of joining procedures, welding equipment, and techniques, materials, etc.

Applying their knowledge, they can assist the welding engineers with the development and application of welding processes.

They are used for production of the weldments according to the appropriate codes.

Welding technicians can also deal with product research and development.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Carry out welding and joining practice for laboratory testing.
  • Carry out welding experiments.
  • Cooperate with engineering teams to manufacture and test the products.
  • Organize tutorials and field activities for customers.
  • Comply with the manufacturing requirements.
  • Understand welding based requirement and solve welding-related problems.

Training and Education

Welding Technicians are expected to have the following training:

  • High-school diploma or GED.
  • Associate or college degree in welding engineering, metal fabrication, etc.
  • Previous work experience.

Certifications can be a plus:

  • AWS Certified welder.
  • Certificate in welding engineering, metal processing, fabrication, machining, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in welding, metal fabrication, etc.
  • Mentorship program.

Qualifications

  • Close attention to detail.
  • High motivation and self-sufficiency.
  • Efficient communication skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and solve problems.
  • Expert in manual and automated arc welding.
  • Ability to diagnose discontinuities and understand blueprints.

Workplace Conditions

The welding technicians usually work in a workshop or a lab.

Working on construction sites and travel opportunities can be involved.
